BLACK HOLES
By Smeanah Mohammed Cradley High School, UK
You feel so helpless,
you’re hurting inside,
But you know you have your feelings to hide.
You feel like you’re in a black hole,
Trapped from the rest of the world.
I feel blind, it’s hard to see,
The path I’m taking is killing me.
I feel like I’m in a black hole,
Trapped from the rest of the world.
You feel so sad, you feel so low,
When they will stop you really don’t know.
You feel like you’re in a black hole,
Trapped from the rest of the world.
Suicide felt like the only way out,
When my Mom found out she started to shout.
She called the ambulance fighting back tears,
But she will never know all the pain I’ve suffered throughout the years. I went into a black hole and now I regret it,
But I will never ever forget it.
Our School Day
By Rebecca Whalley Cradley High School, UK
Boys and girls must go to school,
To learn what’s right and wrong,
We must be told the school rules,
So we can get along.
At school we learn to read and write,
We do our maths and English too,
Pages of work, oh what a sight,
It’s hard for me and you.
We don’t fight, we don’t bite,
We try to do our best,
We tell the teachers about those who fight,
Because they are a pest.
At dinnertime we have our meals,
With everybody else,
We mustn’t shout,
we mustn’t squeal,
We have to help ourselves.
At 3.20 it’s time to leave,
The teachers say ‘Goodbye’,
We pack our troubles up our sleeve,
And give a heavy sigh.

Fly Grandma
(Elergy On the Death of My Grandmother)
Enyinnei Williams Girls High School, SVG
Fly, Fly, little wings, fly beyond imagining;
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the Wind of heaven's Love;
Past the planets and the stars.
Leave this lonely world of ours;
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again.
Fly, Fly precious one,
Your endless journey has begun.
Take your gentle happiness far to the beautiful
For this cross over to the other shore;
There is peace forevermore;
But hold this memory bitter sweet, until we meet.
Fly, Fly do not fear;
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear;
Your heart is pure, your soul is free;
Be on your way, don't wait for me;
Above the Universal Kind,
On beyond the reach of time,
The Moon will rise, The sun will set,
But never, never, will I forget!

ALL ALONE
Alone in a room, nothings still,
Chirping birds and whistling trees,
With the breeze as a companion,
But where're the friends?
There're days when needles prick the heart,
And all the worlds abandoned me,
That life seems just a one way track,
When everything's taking the opposite lane.
Living alone, I think of all the friends I've known,
But when I dial the telephone,
Nobody's home!
So.. Here I go, I don't know where!
And does anyone care?
In youth I never needed anyone,
And making love was just for fun,
All those good times. ooh yeah,
Have all just disappeared.
The pain that strikes me day by day,
The anger that hurts me night by night,
The heart now struggles with desperation,
Even an ounce of LOVE will do!
IN THE PARK
The breeze is gently blowing,
The trees are sharply whistling,
The scent of Lang- Lang perfumes the air,
And birds are singing everywhere.
By the swing, a small child plays,
Innocent of all that's going on.
A mother keeps a sharp ear,
For fear of trouble anywhere.
A couple strolls along the path,
With hearts entwined with love,
Their feelings find a rapid vent,
To move that extra mile.
I just sit here and stare,
At the wond'rous works of life,
While the leaves all stare at me
Like people at a play
Changing Hearts
Running down the isle of love,
Something tugging back and forth,
The sudden merge of mist befalls,
The sureness of this blinded heart,
Then looking back I cleared an ear,
For something whispered in a distance, was
More than just the vibes of love
When hearts behold to make a choice,
A sun may shine for brighter days,
That smile will flicker something more
The heart springs love, but never explains
Now springtime nears, lilac blooms,
Rendering the scents of your perfume,
Just a space, where you used to lie,
Illusions never change into something real,
I carry your smile when I'm broken in two,
And like a clown that's good on a show,
This love is real even though you May not know!
Love
If love could be a flower,
I'd send you a bright bouquet---
If love could be a butterfly,
I'd send a bunch your way---
If love could be rainbow,
I'd send a special one today---
to show you that I love you more
Than words Can ever say.

Bring Back Our Love
Kaymesha Williams Campden Park Secondary School
(SVG)
Rekindle, strengthen national pride!
We want everybody to join as one,
As we would like to see our country go on.
Let us bring back our love, culture and unity.
These things which were prized in the day of slavery.
But now there seem not to be any,
Please don't let them be your enemy.
Long time age Granny used to go mountain,
And bring down plenty Cassava, Yam and Plantain. But nowadays the young people have so much pride; They don't want to cook, they're going fast food in big ride.
Let us all forget so much pride.
As we can stand strong as a nation and say,
We are proud to see this 20th Independence Day.
We Have Nothing to Hide
Natasha George Campden Park Secondary School
(SVG)
Lets take up the role as Vincies,
And do something for our country,
We must be happy to be independent,
So take part, be enthusiastic in this, 20th Independence Celebration.
We need to strengthen our National pride,
Let's make a move to improve our country.
There was once peace, love and unity,
Let's not go back to the days of slavery.
We need to revive our cultural moves,
Dances, Arts and Nutritious dishes.
We have nothing to hide,
Let's Rekindle, Strengthen our national pride.

Safeguard Our Native Land
Deryn G.F.J Taylor Campden Park Secondary School
(SVG)
Fair St. Vincent and the Grenadines,
We thy sons and daughters stand,
Strong and firm in peace and danger,
To safeguard our native land.
Your shores and fine attractions,
With water that beckons you to swim all your cares away,
The black sandy beaches you'll shower with praise, And take away memories that with you forever will stay.
May the good Lord bless our island,
Guard its sons from woe and harm
May our people live united,
Strong in soul and strong in arm.

The Pride We've Lost
Sharita Butter Campden Park Secondary School
(SVG)
Looking back at my island St. Vincent has always made me smile;
Longing for the days when I was once a child. Longing for the Carnival that was spent with joy,
And for Christmas when I would get a toy,
Not forgetting Independence, when we beamed with pride,
Because no longer, behind Britain, we had to hide. But, the people of today are acting kind of strange, 'Like they want all we have worked for, to change. When they think of
Christmas and Independence,
Oh, that's just another day;
But oh my brothers and sisters that is not the way, They no longer care for what the country has to offer; All they care for is making it a disaster.
But when I think of what has passed, I weep like a child for the pride we have lost.
